Room Reveals

The Blue Room

As promised last week when we visited The Pink Room, today I will be showing you its almost-twin, The Blue Room.  This is the room we use as a guest bedroom, and I actually bought the paint for this room when we moved in (The Rona Collection’s 1275-2 Alaska Current in case you were wondering).  Let’s check out some photos :)

Update: Our blue room is now a neutral nursery, and the pink room is the guest room

So yes, if you’re standing in our hallway and looking towards the rooms, The Blue Room is on the left side.

We have one double sized bed along the wall with the window, and a couple dressers on the other walls.  I also have an antique suitcase (from my Grandpa) that is sort of like an extension of the dresser right now.

It’s not a perfect square because there is a jutted out section in the North-East corner where our staircase goes into the basement.  You may recognize the pictures that are on the far dresser as our “Alternative Wedding Guest Book“… and yes… that means I have not hung them on the wall yetBut I will get to that!  I’ve decided that I’m going to put them on a wall in our Master Bedroom, so that’s the first step…

The dresser on the left is the newest (old) one I picked up when I visited my parents in October.  The plan is to move the Ikea Malm dresser out, and move the other dresser to that spot.

On the small Ikea shelf above the dresser I have a few mementos and I just love the way my wedding bouquet really fits with the colour of this room!  One time the Husband knocked his head on this shelf… so that’s why I need to keep a dresser under it now, so that it doesn’t happen again (although I have no idea what he was doing in the first place).  But let’s just say it’s not perfectly straight and level anymore…

I’m not sure if the bright colour is really calming when guests are trying to sleep… but at least they shouldn’t have any problems waking up in the mornings, right?

On the left side of the bed I have a trunk and some random accessories.  (Notably our wedding photos and honeymoon photo album, in case people want to browse pictures I guess!).  I have a few sets of sheets for this bed that I change out regularly, and at this time they are bright orange… so that’s always fun :)

There’s a nightstand on the other side of the bed with a thrift store lamp (I couldn’t resist that colour!) and a tall vase of fake white flowers (which I arranged myself a few years ago).  In the center is a cute little koala that I had since I was little (actually, it might even have been my Mom’s from when she was littleUpdate: It was a gift to my Mom from my Grandparents before I was born.  On its belly there’s a dial and when you turn it, a lullaby plays.  I figured maybe it would help the guests sleep in our bright room?

And finally, I had to highlight the sparkly popcorn ceiling in this room too… because why not!?  The sparkles seem a lot brighter against the blue, and I think it’s just a great addition to a kid’s room (you know, if you wanted to help bring the retro look back).

After my long ramble about The Pink Room and the reason we painted them the way we did, I figured it would be better to dial down the typing today and focus on the pictures.  Do you have any brightly painted rooms in your house?  Notice how our hallway is a muted grey tone, and these two bright rooms really pop!?  Hey, maybe if you’re too worried about painting the rooms in your house wild colours, you can live through me?  Let me know what colour you’d like to see next… you never know where I might incorporate it!

Actually, come back next week to see how/where we tie in all these “random” colours together!

Oh, and I always thought our room was very similar to this one that I pinned:

Right? Like all I need is a fancy chandelier and some damask bedding and we’re set!  (Okay, and maybe a mountain of comfy pillows).

Grandmaman and Grandpa brought the koala bear back from their tour of New Zealand/Australia. I think it was the wishing for a grandchild phase.

Those sparkles in the ceiling are fierce, Nicole! I wish I had those in my guest room. What a bright and cheery space for your guests. Hugs, Coco

Most people would run away from sparkly popcorn ceilings, but I love them!
