Summer is winding down, and I think that this week all the kids will be back in school (I know in some states that kids have been back for a while already!). I keep seeing back-to-school stuff, and I know that I’ll be smack in the middle of it in just a few short years! (Heck, I feel like I was JUST a student myself… time sure flies!). Anyways, let’s do a quick recap of August and then go into my plans for September (and beyond!).

What Happened in August?
On the blog, I shared our trellis mini-fences, filled the crack in our concrete walkway, and scraped and re-painted the front door (which pretty much finished off our front yard updates for this year).
I also shared a list of things (that I think) you should do when you move into a new-to-you house, gave another sneak peek into my closet and spilled some exciting blog news with you!
We started moving on to our backyard projects (including this super simple BBQ pegboard and our refreshed easy DIY firepit)… and things are slowly winding down project-wise on the outside of the house. I’ll still be sharing outdoor projects until the end of the month, then I’ll do a recap of what we were able to accomplish (from our big outdoor to-do list).
Our other neighbours cut down a huge tree in the front yard on the edge of their property… and now I can hardly remember which house is mine (I always just turned into the driveway after the huge tree). Don’t know what it is with our neighbours… but this is the second big tree that was removed this summer!
It’s been still mostly warm and humid around here, although we had a crazy cold patch for a couple of days. It was in the single digits for a bit (Celsius of course) – and I had to break out the sweaters and blankets!
Well here’s how it normally looks, with Momma on the couch, baby next to me in the stroller, and Tootsie snuggled somewhere close (you can just see her nose in the top photo haha). These photos were taken 3 days apart, notice how I’m wearing a tank top in the first one, and a sweater in the bottom one? Crazy weather I tell ya! (Also, when Tootsie is awake and I try and take a photo, she takes the opportunity to try and lick my face…)
Figure out what you love doing and don’t suck at, then try to figure out how to make a living doing that! Quoted by Alexi Wasser in #GIRLBOSS.
There’s also a good quote I liked about possessions (which resonated with me and the whole minimalism thing) and you’ll just have to read the book to see it :)
- 3 Long Sleeve Shirts
- 2 Pairs of Shoes
- 2 Coats
- A Purse
- Set of Bowls
- Excess Dishes
- 5 Workout items
- 9 Sweaters/Dress Shirts
- PS2 + Games
- Cleaning Supplies
- 5 T-Shirts
The first half of this list was things I got rid of before I did my big annual closet count. Then I was disappointed with the amount of things I still owned, so went on a mini-purge and eliminated about 20 more items. Again, my goal is to get my list down to less than 300 items total, so might as well get it down sooner rather than procrastinate haha!
I emptied a few bottles of cleaning supplies, and I don’t plan on replacing them. Now that I have a baby, I’m trying to be more conscious of the chemicals I use around the house. I would love to go all natural, but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to replace my Windex!
- Ping Pong Balls
- 2 Bike Racks
- Baby Books
We started cleaning out the shed (hence getting rid of a trampoline) and I want to store our bikes in there during the winter. I got a couple of wall-mounted bike racks that hold 2 bikes each (would you believe it that the Husband has THREE bikes all to himself?). Ha, I also went to an antique sale one weekend and bought those last 4 items for 30$.
I was looking for a storage ottoman for the baby’s room (to hold his books) and I was happy I found one. I’ll be painting and reupholstering it soonish, so stay tuned for that… Yep, the dark wood and 70s floral fabric don’t really match my décor!
I’d like to also try and grow a plant, so the stool will go right here (I’ve moved the large baby table and Husband’s mess already).
Plans for September
I’ll be attending a Canadian blogging conference (Blog Podium) in the middle of the month, and I’m super excited because I get to go to Toronto, visit with my Mom (she’s meeting me down there to take care of baby)… and go to IKEA!!! I have a list of things I would like to pick up… so my minimalist goals list of things I bring in will be a bit bigger next month…
As I mentioned in my August recap section, I do still have a couple of outdoor projects that I still wanted to get done, so we should be finishing those slowly. Things are going to start gearing up for Fall (and cold weather) around here, and before you know it, it will be Christmas then the New Year! What will you be doing this month?
