January has come and gone, and before you know it – summer will be here. That’s what I’m hoping at least! Although I can’t complain too much about the weather, because it’s been unusually mild here the last couple of weeks, and we actually lost a LOT of snow (we were around 18″ at one point!). Anyways, let’s get on to the February 2017 Plans!

January Recap
I was definitely hustling a lot at the start of the month, what with a fresh new year and all – but everything has slowed down the last week or so. We’re updating our basement and did some drywall patching, painting, fixed some bricks and even painted the fireplace.
Unfortunately we’ve hit a little snag while painting the panelling: it needs to be primed, and the only options that work have warnings to remove all sources of ignition. I thought we could just turn off the fireplace and be okay, but now the Husband is thinking that the furnace still counts. Andddd it’s the middle of winter and I really don’t want to freeze…
In other news, I also came up with a fun green nursery mockup, shared my top posts and projects and made some yummy cheesecake tarts.
Book(s) Read:
In January I managed to read both Chicken Soup for the Soul (the original one) and Elon Musk. Again, they’re both in the big list of books I want to finish… and I’m slowly making my way through.

What a cute scene from yesterday! The Husband napping on the couch, the mister being all cute and normal; and Tootsie sniffing him (she likes to do a poo check every now and then).
Minimalist Goals
Even though I donated a lot of stuff in December, I still regularly go through my items and try and purge when I can.
Items Removed:
- Baby Stuff
- PJs
- Textbooks (20+)
- DVD Cabinet
- Heater
Items Added:
- Watch
- Baby Stuff
- Xbox One
- Wood/Supplies
I was excited when we sold our Xbox a few months ago, and I patched up the custom shelf hole too! Then the Husband decided he wanted a new console, but thankfully it fits on our regular shelf.

Left: Original plant as it appeared after we got it. Right: slowly wilting/current.
February 2017 Plans
Remember when I got a couple of plants when we visited my parents in September? Even though the Husband loved it hung in the kitchen above the sink… it hasn’t been doing too well lately. I water it almost every day, but I remember we had issues with caterpillars (a lot… it was crazy) and it hasn’t really bounced back since.
I’m hoping that a change in scenery will help it thrive, and if so, I’ll transplant it to a different (non-hanging) pot. We moved the game shelf from the basement upstairs (more details this week) and this month will officially be “Fern February” around here. Plus… I didn’t really like it above the sink, as all the dying leaves would fall into the sink on the clean dishes :(
I may be visiting my family sometime this month, but I haven’t really ironed out the details. I’d also like to continue working on the basement, but like I mentioned above, we’re at a painting standstill.

We actually lost a lot of snow this month! Check out the snow scale DIY here.
Hopefully you guys have better February 2017 plans! Any Valentine’s Day ideas? I’ve been sharing a few different things in the email newsletter, but I’m not planning anything big this year (and I don’t think the Husband even remembers it’s coming up).
