Hello everyone! A bit of a pre-introduction, this post is going to be a bit longer than my normal monthly updates because I have a bit more to talk about. But it’s also my birthday month, so I’m guessing you’ll forgive me and read all about my plans for March!? Ooh I also changed up my hair a bit so you can see some pictures of that process too!

What Happened in February?
During the month of February I shared with you how our basement looks, the laundry room, and my plans for both of those spaces. I painted Tootsie’s rug, baked and decorated some Easter holiday mini-cupcakes, and finally finished patching/fixing the laminate floors in our Master Bedroom. (This Tuesday I’ll be sharing pictures of how the space looks, so stop by for that!). OH I finally started working on the nursery room thanks to the delivery of a custom graphic canvas.
“Off the blog” I started working on my scrapbooks that I so desperately wanted to do, and you can sort of see some progress here with now-clean closets. The Husband and I also did a huge road trip down to Florida which I will be sharing with you all next week! And I did apply for the building + plumbing permits right at the end of the month for our upcoming basement bathroom addition. I think all my big goals were accomplished last month!
Book(s) Read in February:
I did take out and read the rest of Getting Things Done by David Allen. I also read Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy, and started reading What’s a Homeowner To Do, which was a gift from Christmas. I have a few books on hold at the library that I’m waiting for, and I need to take out What to Expect When You’re Expecting again so I can finally finish it. I still only read at night when I’m in bed, so I’m kind of proud of myself for reading so much more this month :)
Anddddd let’s not be proud anymore because I brought a lot of stuff into my house last month :(
It’s been exactly 1 year since I’ve tried to adopt a more minimalist lifestyle, which is why I have been sharing all the items that come into my house, and those that I remove (either by donating, selling or trashing). The Husband still brings in his fair share, and it’s always a struggle trying to get him to not buy “useless” things and/or throw away things he no longer uses/needs.
- Clothes (a huge bag full!)
- Returned Bins/Air Mattress borrowed from my parents
- Miscellaneous Makeup (lots of stuff I don’t use or that was empty/expired)
- Fabric Medium and Black Acrylic Paint (for Tootsie’s Rug)
- Dream Big Poster (an early birthday gift from my Mom – and from this post)
- Vacuum Bags
- Crib (from my Mom)
- Work Stuff (shoes, pencils, etc.) – this was all mine, but I had to bring it back home
- Baby Memory Box (a gift from work)
- Belly Laughs Book (a gift from my Grandpa)
- Humidifier (free from my brother… I can finally breathe at night!)
- Clothes (a couple of “maternity” items donated from the mothers)
- Baby Diaper Bag (early baby gift!)
- Baby Outfit (early baby gift!)
- Paints (free from my parent’s house)
- Stuff from my home (papers to file, scrapbook stuff, etc.)
- External Hardrive
- Canvas (from this post!)
I’ve decided that I will still continue sharing the items I bring in and remove each month, but I will omit all the “renovation” type products I bring in to my house. I figured that things like paint, drywall or 2x4s will be used as part of the house (and therefore I won’t be able to remove them… you know?). I also don’t share things I add like toilet paper, or food… because well… those are kind of necessities! And anytime I buy things that replace something or that I use and discard right away (like newspapers, shampoo, etc.) I will also omit from my list, because they aren’t permanent items here.
Which brings me to something fun… my new hair!
Hair History + Current Changes
As I try and grow this blog, my plans are to work with more sponsors and companies so that I can continue doing what I love (especially now that I don’t have a full-time job!). Recently, I had been thinking of ways to change up my hair style. Not wanting to do a drastic cut, I figured that maybe a change of colour would be better! After filling out a few questions, I received L’Oréal Preference Infinia complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes and would love to share my new look!
Did I mention that March is my birthday month too? Something about a new birth year just brings on the feeling of wanting something new or different, am I right?
Anyways, here is my before look, and a picture of my current hair compared to the box sample. Thankfully they sent two boxes because I have A LOT of hair and one would probably have not been enough. I should probably mention that I don’t usually cut my hair all that often (maybe 2-3 times a year… gasp!) and my bangs were getting a little ridiculous! I did go and get a nice new hair cut last week, so I was all set for my new do :)
And here the dye is in my hair. If you’ve never coloured your hair at home before – make sure you are wearing dark clothes, have dark towels, and a comb to help brush the dye through. I also like to use those big claw clips to hold everything together while I wait for it to set (and clean all the splashes around the bathroom too).
While we wait for the dye, let’s look back at some pictures of my past hair colours throughout the years… just because it’s my birthday month and I can :)
I’ve had dark hair…
and rainbow hair!
I liked the rainbow hair the best :) Once it faded too much (I got it dyed like that twice) I just chopped the bottom off and it was all back to normal!
The blonde was definitely the most high maintenance, and the bleach really kills your hair… so be prepared for some hard hair if you want to go lighter! I used to get regular hi-lites (or hi-lites and lo-lites) way back when I was in high school… but since then I’ve had less money and time to maintain those looks :)
But now I have redder hair!
It’s a bit darker and richer than my natural colour, and the Husband says he likes it because red is his favourite (although I’m pretty sure he would say whatever colour that matched my natural one the best…). The L’Oréal Preference Infinia comes with a refresher that you use 2 weeks and 4 weeks later, so I’ll let you guys know how the colour holds up when I use those.
Plans for March
Ohhhh March will be busy for me! Not only am I in full-on planning/sourcing mode for the bathroom addition that will be starting in April, but I need to really get my butt into gear when it comes to baby room prep! The problem is that I don’t want to start moving our furniture around until the dust settles on the basement bathroom reno (literally, I don’t want our computers to get all covered in dust!) so I’m kind of at a standstill upstairs until we at least get the demolition, framing and drywalling done down there. I’m shooting to have all that done by mid-April… so then it will be a mad dash in May to get everything setup before baby comes in June. Wish me luck!
Oh, and speaking of which… I got SUPER large in the middle of February. Like seriously, a few days after posting my belly picture last month I grew probably twice in size. I think it’s been the same since then, but I don’t measure it, I just go by the mirror and my pants (which still all fit thank goodness!). I was holding off purging some clothes until after the baby comes, but I figured might as well get rid of as many things I don’t love now! I’ll definitely be doing another clothes purge once baby arrives, because I’m thinking some clothes will stretch as I continue to wear them throughout the pregnancy.
On the blog this month I’ll be sharing our Master Bedroom (as-is), starting on some projects in anticipation for the Spring One Room Challenge, and maybe even be starting some baby projects too! I’d love for you to continue following me on this DIY journey, and I love to hear your comments as I share all my projects with you.
So what are your plans for March? And have you ever coloured your hair at home?
Talk to you guys soon :)
