I’m sharing our Christmas tree colour theme for this year! I always like to mix things up, and this year was no exception. We went with a teal and purple colour scheme (on a purple tree) but it could totally work for a regular/green tree. Unless of course you prefer something more traditional :) If not, check out this post to read more about our teal and purple Christmas tree!
Honestly, we’ve had our tree up for a couple of weeks now, but it was dark and gloomy for a while so I couldn’t get good photos. As usual, the kids helped me set up the tree, but then I fancied it up when they were done. (Aka moved the ball ornaments higher up where they couldn’t reach, ha).
We always put the Christmas tree in the basement, but have varied the location a bit over the years. This time, I moved the sofas and put it in front of the window. (Check out the regular living room setup here).
While I had the purple, teal and light blue balls already – I did go to the dollar store to pick up two strands of the teal glitter garland. Three or four strands would have been better, but that’s all they had.
So essentially, I made the front/sides of the tree “themed/pretty” and left the back open for our family ornaments. I told the kids it was because you could see that side from the window :)
Nearby, we also set up my collection of reindeers and the nativity set.
The stockings are on the ledge behind the tree too. I pretty much let the kids put whatever ornaments back there.
So technically, just the front is a teal and purple tree :)
Oh! I also made these fun pompom ornaments to match out colours. It was just a spool of multicoloured teal yarn that worked perfectly. Last year I made pompoms, and the kids always make a bunch when I take out the pompom makers.
I know that not everyone likes a purple tree, but it was so fun to do this colour combo. I have a bunch of purple balls mixed in too, along with my different coloured teal ones.
Our basement storage shelves are still in tact, but I do like my (actually used now) book shelves. I’m hoping a few more big organizing sweeps (possibly involving getting rid of a sofa) will help me feel better about this basement living room.
Because yeah… there’s still a bit of a mess down here! To be fair, almost everything in that back corner is stuff that needs to be recycled somewhere – or a project.
So we’ll just ignore that for now :)
You know, just like the teal garlands that don’t wrap around – and the mismatch of ornaments on the back of the tree.
I hope you’ve enjoyed looking at the photos of our teal and purple Christmas tree :) If you don’t have your tree up yet (and you like to change your theme), hopefully this will give you an idea of something fun! And if you have a traditional tree or like to keep it the same… well maybe this was a fun view of something wild you’d never do, ha :)
Now… if I could only get the kids to stop putting targets in the tree and blasting it with the nerf gun, that would be great!
