Already one month into the new year, so that means there are 11 left to get things done! Ha, does it feel that way? Or does it still feel like we are still scraping by from the Christmas celebrations. I think I’m more in the second camp :) Either way, today I wanted to share our plans for 2025 – so hopefully this will kick things into gear!
Check out my plans for 2024 and plans for 2023 to track my progress. Spoiler, there were a few things that didn’t get done – so I’ll put them back on the list for this year :)
Let’s start with the ‘ole cottage. If you didn’t know, we bought land in 2021 and built a cottage over a few years. We rent it out like an Airbnb and I do some regular maintenance/upkeep stuff throughout the year.
Cottage Plans
Paint a rainbow mural(did that but no blog post…)- Basement wall sconce (whoops, still an open space)
- Dock? Hot Tub? (we did price out hot tubs this year, so that’s a step in the right direction)
- Build shed? (we might buy one, who knows, it’s a low priority)
- Maybe address the dresser in the rainbow room?
Our cottage definitely gets more summer guests, so I’m typically busy doing all those changeovers while I do small updates in the winter. This past weekend I did some caulking/silicone-ing, and have a few paint touch-ups to do.
House Plans
We have been slow like molasses on updating our basement. BUT we did start the bathroom renovation, with a goal of getting it done mid-April. Which means that we should probably get going, right? Here is what we need to do:
- Remove old vanity and shower stall (also take out toilet, but we’re reinstalling the same one after)
- Fix drywall/framing around window
- Update plumbing for shower
- Update plumbing for vanity
- Build new shower stall/wall
- Microcement walls + shower (I loved it so much here!)
- Tile floors? (What if I left them concrete?)
- New vanity installed
- Update lighting + fan
- Finish trimwork/frosted door
Other Plans
We have a few little vacations coming up in the next few months. And I am still writing (although, at a much slower pace than I was before). It would be nice to draw/illustrate the main kids’ book I wrote – which involves learning/practicing watercolour. And we’re always on the hunt for another house to update.
(The goal is to buy another house and create two units to rent like what we did at our rental renovation).
Speaking of which, we had some big updates there last year that weren’t really on our radar last January. In the super-far planning stage, we’re also thinking about where we’d like to build our “forever house”.
What about you??
Do you create to-do lists and plans for your year? I think writing down the bathroom renovation steps will be infinitely helpful to get us started. And you know, to show the Husband so he doesn’t have to ask, “what are we doing in there again?”
