A Simple Guest Bedroom (aka Pink Room Makeover)

Once an office, now a simple guest bedroom (with a surprising accent wall in pink!). All there is to it is a bed, nightstand, and basic necessities.

I like to call it a simple guest bedroom, because really - all there is to it is a bed, nightstand, and your basic necessities. No cool theme, no rhyme or reason to how it is decorated... just a little place for guests to come spend the night.

I’m sharing the updated pictures of our Pink Room today; what was once an office is now a simple guest bedroom.  I like to call it a simple guest bedroom, because really – all there is to it is a bed, nightstand, and your basic necessities.  No cool theme, no rhyme or reason to how it is decorated… just a little place for guests to come spend the night.

If we look back down memory lane at how the Pink Room used to look (seriously, go check out that link, I’ll wait here) – we know that it was a bright pink room that we used as our office.  The Blue Room was originally the guest bedroom, but a few weeks ago I painted (most of the walls in both rooms) a more neutral gray colour.

Our big dilemma with updating this space was that the couch couldn’t fit through the door.  We needed to wait for all the snow to melt and some warmer weather to dry the yard so we could push the couch out the window.

Seriously!  We had to back the truck up to add height because this room is about 1.5 storeys up from the ground (we live in a split level house).  I was very worried that the Husband would drive over (and ruin) our walkway patio stones… but luckily they were unharmed!

(I did paint the room with the couch still in it, but had moved our desks downstairs ahead of time so I had more space).

Simple Guest Bedroom Tour

Okay, now onto the pictures of what the room looks like currently!  You may notice that I have the orange sheets on the bed (again – same as the Blue Room tour) but I assure you we have 3 different sets of sheets for the guest bedroom… I was just too lazy to put on a different colour just for photos.  The orange ones don’t reallllyyy go with the pink wall, but I don’t think our guests are that picky!

Besides, they are not directly against the pink wall, so it works out!

I have the same staples in my décor as before – aka the white vase of faux flowers I’ve had for (almost 10) years; the floral octagon bin (which was in this shelf vignette before) and the blue bucket that came with the house (I love that colour!).  These sit on the antique trunk I have, and the trunk holds all the extra sheets + blankets for the room.

Since getting rid of the couch, we were left with an extra pillow, so I figured guests could have it in their room (you know, in case there are two pillow people – I am one of those!).  I also have 4 mini Ikea pillows that match our bedding, but only have 2 on the bed right now.  My plan was to put custom pillowcases on them… but a lack of sewing skills (and a sewing machine) has obviously stalled that project!

Above our lamp (I kept the original lampshade on for now – remember I got a new one) I hung a frame I’ve had in storage.  It’s a bright aqua background with a lace bird that I took from my Mémé’s house; and I was really drawn to the colour.  Like Mr. Spaghetti Noodles in the nursery, sometimes I just keep things for a while until I finally figure out where to put them.

And there is the pink I keep mentioning! We kept the east wall pink (it’s to the left when you come in), and I kept all the photos up because they fit in the random décor I have going on.

They’re actually not centered on the wall… and I don’t know if it bothers me or not yet.  (They were above the couch, and are technically centered if you open the door and go from that point).

Anyways, when you first open the door, all you see are the newly painted gray walls and the bed.

You don’t get that pop of pink until you actually step into the room, and I think it’s a fun little surprise!

Speaking of which, there is a gross dirty spot on the wall, so I am contemplating having to repaint the entire pink wall just to get rid of the (grease?) stain.  It’s where the couch used to be… so I guess that’s one reason why people say to have furniture away from the walls.  We don’t actually have any of the original pink left, so I mixed a bunch of test colours on the wall to try and get a match (one of the walls that got painted gray, don’t worry).

We’ll see if I ever get around to redoing it… not really a priority at the moment!

But there you have it, a quick little photo tour of our simple guest bedroom (with a surprising accent wall in pink!).  I kind of like the fact that the accent wall isn’t the one that the headboard is on (which I think is what people do normally, but if you saw our Master Bedroom then you know I am not normal with my accent wall placement).  At least this way our non-pink-matching sheets don’t clash with the accent wall haha!

Do you have a guest bedroom in your house?  I’m thinking that it’s a luxury that we will be missing in a couple years when more babies start to fill up the rooms, but for now we have a clean, designated space for guests when they spend the night.

See you guys next time!

(Ooooh did you happen to catch a tiny glimpse of our hallway update?  I’m excited to share that new space with you soon!)
