Today I’m sharing our rainbow multicoloured Christmas tree! Rainbow trees have gotten really popular in the last few years, but mine doesn’t follow the traditional gradient. Essentially, I decorated our tree with a bunch of multicoloured balls all over the place. Throwing on some of our collected and sentimental ornaments gives it a really eclectic vibe.
So would you consider this a rainbow tree? Or a multicoloured Christmas tree? Or just a regular Christmas tree? I mean, obviously ignoring the fact that our tree is purple ha.
When we bought our first house and decorated our own Christmas tree, I purchased a bunch of coloured balls at the end of the season. Since then, I’ve thrifted and purchased a few more colour options. Most of which are now on this tree :)
I felt like I was late to put up and decorate the tree this year. But we were adding drywall to a portion of the ceiling in the basement and I wanted to wait for that to be done. Even so, I let the kids decorate the tree all by themselves, and left it like that for a few days.
Then, I took everything down and started again. In hindsight, we should have all done it together (while blasting Christmas music).
Last week, I shared our DIY pom pom ornaments. They look so cute nestled amount the larger solid-coloured balls.
I think I have every colour of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow/gold, green, blue, pink and purple. As I mentioned earlier, most rainbow Christmas trees I’ve seen do the colours in a gradient. So all the red ornaments are together, then orange, yellow, etc. I didn’t have many orange ornaments so it was easier to mix everything up.
Multicoloured Christmas Tree Additions
New this year was the black tree collar. I purchased two options for the cottage (on accident, really) and we brought the black one here. We might switch them up next year, but I’d really like to keep the cottage tree looking the exact same each year.
I also bought the starburst tree topper I’d been coveting for years! It’s really modern and different, but I love it.
Finally, these clear rainbow ornaments are new. Such an impulse purchase (or should I say, a targeted online advertisement that drew me to buy them in-store, ha). The best part about them is that they are shatterproof!
Élise was the only one that helped me redo the tree; but I suppose I could have forced the boys too.
We’re definitely not a ‘decorate-the-whole-house’ family. Only a few small things all in the basement.
Heck, the biggest change (other than the new drywall on the ceiling) is that I moved all my plants up to make room for my reindeer collection.
We still need to tape and mud the drywall, but that will hopefully be hired out in the new year. (And yes, almost all the letters on the stockings are backwards).
Now that you’ve seen our decorated tree this year, would you consider it a rainbow tree or a multicoloured Christmas tree? Honestly, I have no idea what I’ll do next year… But considering that I am running out of room to store my ornaments, I think I will reuse some of the ones I already have.
Of course, I can always update the ornaments to make them whatever colours I want.
