It’s time for the kid’s bedroom reveal! We turned our yellow striped bedroom into a fun, teal and rainbow dragon themed space. I kept the final look a surprise from the kids, and – no surprise – they loved it!
If you’ve been following along, you’ll know that our main reason for updating this room was to move the kids around. I shared the before photos, and then the progress (and colour reveal) last week. I also wanted the bedroom to match the other two (our bedroom and the shared kids’ room). Aka board and batten on the bottom two-thirds and wallpaper on the top.
I really liked how this bedroom turned out, so let’s do a full tour of the space.
Goodbye yellow-striped walls, hello teal board and batten and rainbow dragon wallpaper!
The whole flow of this room also changed by moving the furniture around.
The biggest difference being the bed in the middle instead of along the wall.
The tall dresser used to be in the closet and was/is my overflow for too-big clothes and shared things (sheets, sports uniforms).
I originally wanted the bed to be centered in the room, but the Husband thought it would be easier to access the drawers on the long cabinet if there was more space.
When I put this room back together, I kept the mirror off the wall and asked Zachary where he wanted it.
At around 9 x 10, this is not the biggest bedroom in the world, but we were able to get all the furniture in a way that made sense.

Let’s keep going!
Other than a few sweaters in the closet, most of Zachary’s clothes are in the long dresser – so technically we don’t need the tall one if we wanted more room.
I also added these black hooks to wood pieces on the back of the main door, so plenty of places to hang clothes/things.
I mentioned last week (I think?), but our house is really starting to have a rainbow theme.
I was worried that the dark background of dragon wallpaper would be too dark, but it looks good. I don’t know how it would have went with navy (one of the colour options I considered). But the light teal (Benjamin Moore Spring Break) seems like the perfect choice.
I also bought this rainbow basket to be used a laundry hamper. Previously, we used a beige one that I painted the bottom – but I’ve moved it to the closet to hold stuffed animals.
Oh, and we got rid of the curtain rod/curtains too. With the dresser under the window, they would have gotten in the way. Although the minimalist look is much cleaner.
Because the kids were gone when I was finishing and putting together this room, I had free reign to move all the stuff in here. Zachary didn’t think I was going to do a good job moving the stuff from his closet nook, but I essentially just put it in the same spot in here.
(He really needs to go through his stuff though, there’s a lot of junk!)

Another thing he did was tape up all his drawings over the walls. I took them down for the photos, then someone complained I didn’t put them back in the right spots… whoops!
Technically, there are still a few drawings still up in the other bedroom – which is now Felix’s space. He has a lot less stuff, so I hope that it will stay better organized in here.
I hope you enjoyed these photos from our latest kid’s bedroom reveal. As I mentioned, this new room will be Zachary’s for the next few months, then we’re moving Élise in here. Not sure how that whole transition will go, so there may be a guest bedroom/kid room update in our future.
(Yes, we have another bedroom, but it’s in the basement and I don’t know about separating our kids that much, ha.)
