Hello everyone and welcome to the second month of 2016!  Time sure is flying by, isn’t it?  You know what I just realized… I accidentally wrote “2015” on my January post, but I just fixed it so now we are all up-to-date!  What are your plans for February 2016… aka the month of love?  Let’s discuss!

What Happened in January?

Well we finally got some snow in January; we didn’t get 3 feet at one time like some places, but maybe a foot a week on average?  No, that seems like too much… at least 6″ a week steady; and I think the most we got was maybe 18″ in a 24 hour period?

I posted about our broken front door lining on Instagram.  Just to recap, because ours is a steel front door, there is a “wallpaper”-like lining to create a fake wood grain pattern.  When I painted the front door in the summer, I had patched a couple worn out spots along the window.  Unfortunately it had been starting to peel away and bubble for the last few months apparently, and then when it got cold – it snapped.

So now I have to wait for it to warm up (aka a few months from now) and then rip up all the lining, and repaint the door.  I’m thinking the door might need to come down, but we will see.  On one hand, I kind of like the worn off green colour, but it doesn’t really match our house style.  If only we lived in a white siding farmhouse, it would be perfect!

It was requested that I show off my tummy (baby bump) throughout my pregnancy, so here is the first picture (taken this morning).

I am officially halfway done the pregnancy, so I will just continue to grow (I only really started showing in January, and we could always just blame eating too much!).  You know what else this picture shows?  That Tootsie sheds like crazy, because I’m pretty sure there is more dog hair on me than anything else!

One or two Sundays ago I hurt my back pretty badly.  I was in a lot of pain that was not going away, and I thought it had to do with the pregnancy, so I had to go to the hospital (because that’s what you do when you’re pregnant).  The baby is fine, and they couldn’t find anything else wrong, so they said it was just a muscle spasm.

A muscle spasm?  I mean, I’ve had my fair share of back muscle spasms, usually from bending down or twisting a weird way… and I knew what they were because it was instant and I would lay in pain for a while and then ice and the pain would slowly subside a few days later.  (I am young, but I’m pretty sure I have the back of an 80 year old man).

Anyways!  I’ve never gotten a muscle spasm when I was laying down doing nothing (seriously – I was taking a break and watching a movie on the couch!) and never had one that got worst at random intervals (the first night I woke up three times because I couldn’t take the pain, almost throwing up it was that bad).  I couldn’t sit for long periods of time the next few days without it hurting, I could only lay on my left side… it was bad.  It seems to be 90% gone, so we’ll just hope it won’t come back.

But you know what I realized?  Apparently, if I can’t take the pain from a “muscle spasm” than clearly labour is going to kill me!

And there’s no turning back now… can’t keep the baby in there forever :( haha

Oh and also… I couldn’t shovel snow for a week or so, which was awful (because it snows here!) and I may have a slight OCD obsession with shoveling snow.  Even it is snows like 1 or 2 inches, I have to be out there shoveling it right away.  I think I’ll just “push” the snow from now on and let the Husband lift it over the piles… but I can’t take the accumulation anymore!

Book(s) Read in January:

I continued reading What to Expect When You’re Expecting… but I didn’t finish it because I had to return it to the library.  I did take out Getting Things Done again, so will hopefully finish that one soon!  I also read and recycled two magazines this month (so have omitted them from my list below).

Minimalist Goals

Items Removed

  • Threw away 3 socks
  • Scarfs x 4 donated
  • Tuques x 3 donated
  • Car Mitten donated
  • Threw away 2 single gloves
  • Threw away 1 hat cover/hood
  • 6 Glass Jars donated
  • 5 Empty Boxes + bubble wrap donated

Items Added

  • Crown Moulding (x 2) – returned 1
  • Drywall Mud
  • 2 Gallons of Paint (on sale!)
  • Foam brushes and rollers
  • Screws
  • Couch Plug
  • A rocking chair
  • A GPS

Items Replaced

  • Phone Book (1 x 3)
  • Air Filter
  • Small Hooks (because another one broke)

At the start of the month I thought it would be a good idea to go over our winter accessories and purge all the extras.  I made the Husband help me, but honestly it was like pulling teeth.  He thinks that we should keep everything, no matter the amount of stuff we have.  6 scarves between the both of us?  Why that’s not enough according to him!

We also got a new phone book, and when I went to put it away I realized we already had three (some from 2 years ago) so I threw out the extras.

I needed 2 screws to attach the handles to the dresser and some paint rollers for stock because we didn’t have anymore (I hand brushed the primer in the closet).  The Husband didn’t want to go to the close hardware store, so we went to Rona which is a bit further… but they were having a sale on their paints (buy one, get one 50% off!) and I HAD TO BUY PAINT!  You guys, I bought some light gray paint for the bedrooms and I cannot wait to use it!

Plans for February

February is the last time I have to work (at a real “off-site” job, not counting stuff I do at home of course).  Whoopee!  I’ll be going on maternity leave, but before you think it’s all sleeping in and naps, I have A LOT of stuff I want to accomplish before baby arrives.  Okay yes, I will probably sleep in a little… and maybe take naps…

The Husband and I will be going on a road-trip (how exciting!).  We were originally planning a trip out far (maybe Europe?) but I was hesitant being on a plane for too long, and I couldn’t really decide on a good place to go while pregnant.  Even though I am in my second trimester (the best time to travel while pregnant apparently…) I still worry about being stuck somewhere with no access to help if I needed it.  So road trip it is!  (Which is why I got a GPS).

You know what the first thing I want to tackle when I’m off work is!?  UPDATING MY SCRAP BOOK(S)!  Seriously, I need to yell that out because it’s been way too long since I’ve touched them, and I have paper and memories floating around taking up space (literally, like over half the boxes in the Pink Room closet are things that belong in a scrap book).  I figure it will take me a good solid few days (seriously) but then that will allow me to put the newly organized boxes and craft supplies in the Master Closet.  Then I can move the Blue Room closet stuff into the Pink Room closet to make room for baby.  Okay this might sound boring or “really, you’re excited to move stuff and organize” to you, but I cannotttttt wait because the stuff has been staring at me for months years taunting me.

Other than that… I want to apply for some permits to get the basement bathroom renovation process started (I won’t be cheating and starting early, I just assume permits take at least a few weeks to get approved).

Every month I go over what I accomplished the month before, and discuss my updates for the future. Here are my plans for February 2016

And then before you know it, it will be March!

(Ohh and on the short term, the Husband just told me we are hosting Super Bowl this year so now I have to get food and clean the house…)

So, what are your plans for February 2016?
