Welcome! My name is Nicole and I live in Northern Ontario, Canada and I’ve been writing this DIY blog for almost ten years. Since it’s the start of a new year, I figured a recap of the popular posts (and ones to watch) was in order. Without further ado, let’s get to the most popular posts of 2023!
For the last few years, I’ve always shared the top 5 posts overall (from any year) according to my analytics data. And, since it’s a yearly post recap, I also have the top five posts that I wrote in 2023.
I’ll be honest, I did not write as many posts in 2023 as I normally do. I was coming off of a year of hustling (aka 2022) and have been prioritizing other writing this last year. (I’ve written a few novels that I would like to publish soon – not DIY related, ha).
Top Madness and Method Blog Posts in 2023
- Painting vs. Whitewashing Panelling & Brick (2016)
- Repair Damaged Deck Board (2018)
- Patch Gaps in Laminate Floors (2016)
- Sand Chipped Glassware (Originally posted in 2016, rewritten in 2022)
- Building a Single Step with Brackets (2015)
Of this list, 3 of the posts were repeats from last year – and one was a post that I rewrote in 2022. These were the top overall posts visited in 2023, so it’s fun to see the list evolve and change.
Top Blog Posts Written in 2023
- Butcher Block Counter Review (March)
- Raised Ranch Year 3 Home Tour (March)
- Using a Portable Carpet Cleaner (January)
- Super Mario Family Costumes (October)
- Testing Foaming Hand Soaps (March)
It takes a while for things to get popular, so I have to scroll way down in the analytics to find things I’ve written for the past year. Also, seems like March was a popular month, and I know I was still posting regularly (once a week then).
2023 Highlights
Anyways! Let’s get to a fun little segment I like to call “Nicole’s favourite posts” or “posts to watch”. I just went back and counted all the posts I wrote last year, and there were 34 total. Some were reworked posts from years past, but most were original for this year.
Honestly, I’ve sent people links to this post and referenced it a few times after writing it. Essentially, it’s a list with instructions for the easy card games you can play with a regular deck of cards.
This was an emergency project we started over the summer (last year) and finally got around to completing (and sharing) a few months ago. It’s the bathroom in the upstairs unit of the rental house we have.
For the Spring One Room Challenge this year I went to my brother’s house and updated his main bathroom in the same style that I did his powder room years ago. The faux tile painted floors are always my favourite.
Also part of the bathroom renovation was a toilet installation/replacement. It’s crazy to think that it’s a project I’ve done a BUNCH of these over the years but this is the first time I shared the toilet installation on the blog.
We finally finished building our cottage (and rented it out). This BIG cottage build update post has all the details on what the rooms look like with a list of what we still needed to complete.
A big project I completed this year at the cottage was the staircase transformation. Essentially, I stained, painted and clear-coated the boring construction wood to make it match our gray vinyl plank floors.
This was a fun project I completed in a few hours at the cottage. The painted forest mural is in the one bedroom, and we also have a flower stencil mural on the ceiling of another bedroom. Still have one mural left :)
I had big dreams to share a lot of Christmas projects and posts this year… but womp womp, life got busy. I only managed to make and share these pom pom ornaments. But they’re super cute :)
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about the popular posts from 2023! I’ll probably keep my reduced posting schedule this year, so please let me know if you are looking for anything specific that I should incorporate in!
